Ozone Kites

We'll be using three different types of Ozone kites in various sizes. In general we just want to be pulled along the ground. Unlike a lot of kiters we don't do tricks and have no need to get lifted into the air, particularly when we have sleds behind us. We want to keep it really simple with very easy to fly kites that have a good margin for error and the best safety systems. While Ozone are kindly sponsoring us we have been using their kites for years as they really are the best!

We also use different line lengths ie. the distance between the kite and the person flying the kite. Out on the icecap there may not be much wind on the ground or even at 30m so lengthen the kite lines up to even 90m. Although the kite will turn slower and is harder to get up in lower wind speeds, the power it generates is just incerdible and really needs to be tried to be believed.

Ozone Access

Most of the kites we are taking are Access. Being in the middle of nowhere means we really need something that is simple and very basic to use in bad conditions. The Ozone Access is very gentle on the inexperienced and doesn't give much lift - it is designed for traction and that is all we need. Charlie, David & Dan will be taking 6 & 10m Access kites on either 30 or 60m lines.

Ozone Frenzy

These are awesome kites that give a bit of lift and a LOT of traction. They have a bit more brute force than the Access kites but Cynan has been using his for the last few years so knows them very well and is taking his 5 & 10m kites on 60m lines.

Ozone Yakuza

Sometimes, nothing beats a bit of raw power. When we have low winds, we're all pulling out the 12 & 14m Yakuzas. This is a really serious kite that is built for speed and power which has been aptly demonstrated by the number of kite buggy championships it has won. We'll probably leave these on the 30m lines otherwise the expedition will be all over in a week.
